The openXEdge consists of two parts: a fanless industrial PC for the control cabinet and the firmware running on it. The firmware keeps itself up to date (see How updates work); the PC stays the same.
What the openXEdge is for
The openXEdge is the platform for applications at the machine: it brings the user interface, the updates, the diagnosis and the link to fleet management. Which applications run on an edge depends on its edition; the handbooks of the individual editions describe them.
The industrial PC
The openXEdge ships on the NET-III 2I640DW embedded computer by LEX
COMPUTECH, in the version with an Intel Atom processor (-E13).
